In line with the strategic plan of the CKPrahalad Centre (CKPC), of LIBA to improve the economic condition of the marginalized especially those at the bottom of the pyramid, CKPC conducted a city-wide study of centres that shelter and protect women who need help in the months of May-June 2022.
The team from LIBA consisting of Dr. Siluvairaja (Chair), Dr. Ameeta Fernando (Co-chair) and Ms. Benita Rani (Coordinator) visited the self-help groups constituted by the women from the slums of Vyasarpadi in north Chennai on the 15th of June 2022. The venue for the intervention was the meeting hall at the Real Charitable Trust in the mentioned locality. Around 25 women representing the various self-help groups of North Chennai introduced themselves and briefed the team about their requirements.
The women were categorized based on the skills that they require to start small and tiny enterprises. Other women mentioned that they need training in computer skills and tools. All the requirements voiced by the women were documented for further action. The participants were also briefed about the Mini-MBA programme of LIBA. The founder and Chairperson of the Real Charitable Trust, Mr. Lawrence, thanked the CKP team of LIBA for conducting this need assessment programme for the benefit of those on the peripheries of society.
