Mr. Anand Krishnamoorthy
CEO, Wedtree
The BMI session on 30TH January 2019 was marked by the presence of Mr. Anand Krishnamoorthy, Founder & CEO of a start-up called Wedtree (an online platform for buying wedding return gifts).
Mr Krishnamoorthy had a very friendly interaction with the students where he took them through his journey of his start-up till date. He said that since he is a young entrepreneur, students might be able to relate more to his ideology. He started with the advice that budding entrepreneurs shouldn’t shy away from starting from scratch as this is time from where it all begins. Secondly, they should have tricks under their sleeves as there is tremendous competition and innovation in our market, and only the fittest survive. Last but not the least, the most important thing for a start-up is a constant vision. Other subsets might change here or there through the journey but the long term vision for success is something which should remain constant. The more you delay, the more opportunities you miss. Adding to the above points, he feels that an entrepreneur should never be content with something. In fact, he uses the catchphrase of One Plus – “never settle”.
On being asked about his previous journey he said that like many other successful entrepreneurs, even he had a few failures before Wedtree, but that didn’t stop him from his ultimate dream. He also mentioned that factors such as monetary goals, financial discipline and maintaining the right culture in the company plays a very crucial role in the growth of any start-up. Also, understanding the behaviour and culture of the customer is equally important; he explained this by giving the differences in the buying patterns of different communities across the country. He pointed out the methods of handing failures namely – identifying the correct problem and strategizing on how to tackle the problem. Hence, by the end of the session the students were able to get a taste of the entrepreneurial journey that they might undertake in the future.
